Should you copy your competitor?

6 years ago, people would travel all the way to my office and asked me:

“Will, can you build me a website that looks just like that?”

They came to me and request a website that looks and sounds just like their competitor.

“They seem to be doing well. Copy them.”

Back then, I thought that was smart, right?

Copy what works, save yourself failures?

Funnel hacking spirit right?

Turns out, most people who told me to copy their competitors, ran out of business within 2 years.

Sorry, but not my fault.

Business is a constant testing ground of who can adopt and innovates.

The more you copy, the less you practise innovating.

Survival of the fittest.

Never stop asking “What else will make my product better?”

I’ll leave you with this statistic:

Since 2000, 52% of companies in the Fortune 500 have either gone bankrupt, been acquired, or ceased to exist.
